The Ilvermorny Sorting

Ilvermorny Houses, a brief and quick study

So as with all Harry Potter-related news, I was excited to hear about Ilvermorny on Pottermore and if you haven’t read the history yet that Rowling wrote herself, you are doing yourself a disservice and we are not friends anymore.

I signed up right away (I guess all my old accounts got deleted because they reupholstered their site?) and took the quiz. Then I decided to take the quiz 14 more times because I wanted to see more questions and see how my results changed.

  • I decided I am not going to retake the Hogwarts sorting hat quiz again because it would be useless, even if it changed. I think I’m secure in the fact that I’m very Slytherin and I like to think I was a Slytherin at the time of taking it, even if I am changed now.
  • I’m hesitant about Ilvermorny because I don’t know much about it. I’ve taken so many Hogwarts sorting quizzes, it’s unreal. My favorite was when someone got all the Pottermore questions together and made a giant quiz with each house getting a certain percentage. It felt complete to me and as of right now, that’s not available for Ilvermorny since it’s still new. So I’m taking this quiz with a grain of salt.
  • My answers mostly remained the same for all answers, but I did change I think 1-2 answers in the process after thinking about it more.

It’s really quick once you get into the swing of things. You sign up, verify your email, take the quiz, delete your account, and repeat.

  15. Thunderbird

  • Your house is really what you feel you connect with most, I believe.
  • At first, I wanted Horned Serpent or Thunderbird because they both seemed like really cool animals. When I read the story and more about the houses, I changed my mind. I wasn’t sure what I wanted, but I really liked Pukwudgies.
  • Rowling herself said there is no equivalence between Hogwarts and Ilvermorny houses, though it’s hard not to compare, though Ilvermorny’s are much less fleshed out currently.
  • I consider myself a Pukwudgie since it was my first result. I put more weight on that than anything. I also like to think I’ve evolved from Slytherin to Pukwudgie because heart/healer is really where I stand right now. I also see myself in William (READ THE FUCKING STORY) and was really excited to get Pukwudgie (even though I didn’t want it at first) because he’s a lover at heart, even though he doesn’t show it. He’s misunderstood (maybe all Puks are) and can be an asshole…but a loveable asshole nonetheless. So me, right?
  • I got 7/15 Thunderbird, however, so there’s no denying that. I like to think this is my secondary house because soul/adventurer is what I strive to be.
  • Horned Serpent is just really cool and it’s a serpent, though I don’t consider myself strong in the mind/scholar aspect of it, and I don’t prioritize knowledge as much as I used to, though it is something more…innate and passive in me, I guess.
  • And 0 Wampus, which is obvious. Body/warrior was always a default choice in videogames, but only because it was easiest to hack and slash. In real life, it doesn’t coincide with me at all.
  • I think I got a mix of those 3 houses because a lot of them show Slytherin traits as well, especially the Pukwudgie/Thunderbird combination.
  • I fucking love Harry Potter.

  • JK Rowling
  • Pottermore
  • Native American and North American folklore/history
  • Immigrants/refugees
  • Friends who put up with me and participate in my pop culture obsessions
