The Home Alone Saga #6

Naturally, after the GRE, I had to cut my hair, because nothing is more cathartic than a haircut. Another interesting facet about living alone is that I can be as loud as I want at any hour of the day. I did laundry and cut my hair and vacuumed up said hair all around the wee hours of midnight to 3 a.m. Don’t have to worry about waking Mom.

I feel like I suddenly have a lot of time on my hands. Previously, I’d feel guilty about not studying during my free time. Now that I don’t need to be studying, I have some extra time to lounge around. Yet at the same time, I feel some sense of guilt for doing so. Like I should be doing something, which technically, I should be. But I’d like to think that when I want to relax, my mind won’t make me feel bad about it. Can’t help it though, I don’t know why.

I had made a California burrito and a tequila sunrise, both of which were really simple. But let me just say that drinking in the middle of the week is really weird (#doitfortherecipe). Then I made Cajun jambalaya pasta and it was difficult because I didn’t really know what I was doing. But anything Cajun and I really want to make it. Turned out pretty good in the end, we’ll see how the leftovers are. I still have problems with making pasta, so need to practice more because I love pasta dishes. Next time I’m gonna steal sauce from Boiling Crab and try mixing it with random things. I really like mixing meats- this dish allowed for chicken, sausage, and shrimp to be tossed together. I also learned that I really want a spice rack. We don’t really have one at the house because we mainly use Asian stuff. But damn, paprika would be nice every once in a while.

Some different things I did in my allotted free time:

  • went to the gym near my alma mater; going to a different gym than the one you’re used to is such a weird experience and I look like a lost child
  • went out during the week; I tried to avoid this in general because I’d want to get home and study and such, but I have some free time now, the only limit is money (thankfully next month is coming up so I can spend more); went paddleboarding with the co-workers for the first time…didn’t fall in but felt really wobbly, fun stuff though!
  • turned on the PS3 (and TV) for the first time in what seems like months; I wanted to play Kingdom Hearts since it’s the only game I want to get a trophy for and I have no other new games to play, not sure if I want to get sucked back into gaming
  • sat outside and read; such a wonderful feeling, I’d like to do this more often but I generally only have time to read right before bed so it’s always artificial light for me

I think I’m spending way too much of my free time and job breaks looking at recipes, but I’m okay with it.
