The Pumpkin Face

The "face stealer" face.

Last night, I fell asleep to Superman III. And then I woke up and it was so late. But I had to go study at UCI with Anthony, so we went to Lee’s. And then I studied by myself because HE DIDN’T SHOW UP and then went to Albertson’s to buy a bunch of groceries, and then he did show up, so we studied for a little…

And then I went home and ate some dinner and made my mask for all of 5 minutes because I realized I actually have worn a costume every year for as long as I remember, even if I don’t walk around with it. So yeah…I was gonna be No Face from Spirited Away, but then I decided to have a more Avatar-themed one, so as you can obviously guess, I was Koh, the Face Stealer. DUH. I didn’t really wear it, but I took it to Alex’s house (which, oops, I just realized I forgot it there), where we carved pumpkins. I’ve been wanting to do this since forever, so we actually did it! I didn’t really know what to do at first, but then we scoured the web and I found this awesome Batman one, so I tried to model it after that.

Pumpkin carving is so much harder than you think. It’s basically its own art form. It’s a lot of experimenting with what works, and everyone has their own special way of doing it, but in the end, we all had nice ones. Alex made a puking Lionel Richie/Simba (because, yes, there was a pumpkin stencil of Lionel Richie), Kathy made a Minnie Mouse, and Anna made an alien from Toy Story. It was like 2 hours of hard labor, y’all. So awesome. At first, I thought mine was all messed up, but when you light it up, it turns out nice and dandy. And pumpkin innards feel funny, in a good way.

Such a fun night! I’ll be back for Thanksgiving! c;

  1. That Batman pumpkin is amazing. How the heck did you do that?!

  2. Thank you! C=
    The Batman silhouette is untouched pumpkin, and then I carved out random cloud/bat shapes…and then for the other layer, I skinned the pumpkin with a spoon and then scooped out some innards to make it look lighter.

  3. […] my blog and see what people are checking out. I was surprised to see a huge surge in views from my Batman pumpkin post last year. So, here are some pictures of yesterday’s celebrations, A Hipster Halloween: […]
